For the Christmas season; the Puerto Rican Pasteles is one of those dishes that can not be missed at the table of each Puerto Rican household.However they are always welcome at the Puerto Rican table, at any time of the year. The most common filling for Pasteles de masa is pork and chicken .  Also of fish; but this is less common. But if you prefer to avoid meat, you can do so with the vegetables of your choice.

Variations

Other variations are pasteles de yuca and pasteles de arroz. Where the “masa” is actually composed of partly cooked season rice which is fully cooked as the pastel boil.
